Unpack it and you'll find

  • 2 × 630W TOPCon N-type panels (bifacial, glass-glass)
  • 1 × APsystems EZ1-M 800W microinverter
  • Hybrid aluminium mounting frame with ballast brackets, for a wall or the ground
  • 4m AC cable

Ballast isn't included, for when it goes on the floor.

Over 960W? Why we suggest a professional check

With 1260W of panels, this kit should have a professional check of your electrics before you plug it in. It still sends no more than 799VA into your home. The extra panel power just means it gets there more often, especially on grey days.

A big wall deserves a big kit

It needs a run of about 5.0m by 1.2m. On a terrace that usually means a wide end gable. It's the kit behind our savings headline: a busy family home could save around £180 a year*.

The maker requires a professional assessment before any wall, flat-roof or raised install. Book that before anything is fixed to the house.

Where it can't go

  • the yard's back or side walls, which are usually the boundary with the entry or next door
  • any wall shared with a neighbour (a party wall)
  • balconies
  • buildings with timber, ACM, MCM or HPL cladding, or having external wall remediation
  • anything held on with cable ties, rope, straps or tape

In England a kit on a house wall has to stay within set limits, can't go on a street-facing wall in a conservation area, and isn't allowed on a listed building. Plenty of Manchester terraces sit in conservation areas, so check with your council if yours might.

On the flags, the hybrid stand is held with expansion bolts or ballast on its lower feet. The maker's ground-kit ballast table doesn't cover the hybrid stand, so ask us first and we'll get the maker's figure for your kit. Don't use it ballasted until that's confirmed.

*Our estimate for a busy four-person home with someone in all day, 70% of the power used at home, south-facing and unshaded, at the 26.32p price cap rate. About £1,760 over 10 years and £3,430 over 20. See how we work it out.

Tick these off first

Can't tick one? Sort it before you order, or ask us through the contact form.

  • About 5.0m × 1.2m of sunny gable wall or yard floor.
  • A weatherproof outdoor socket within reach of the kit's 4m lead. Straight into the wall, no extension leads, reels or adaptors.
  • Modern RCD protection in your fuse box. Old fuse box, or not sure? An electrician can check it, or fit the outdoor socket.
  • Over 960W of panels, so have a professional check your electrics before you plug in.
  • Going on a wall? It needs a professional assessment first (the maker's rule), and it must be a wall of your own house, never the yard's boundary wall.
  • Renting, leasehold or in a managed block? Get written permission from your landlord, freeholder or managing agent before you buy.
  • Give your home insurer a quick ring before you set it up.
  • Register it free at myplugin.solar before you switch on. That lets Electricity North West, who run the wires round here, know it's there.
  • One kit per household, and never wired up with a home battery.

Folk often ask

Is bigger always better?

Bigger panels make more on dull days and in the mornings and evenings, but every kit is capped at 799VA into your home. If your wall fits the Max, it'll get you the most.

Can it go across the back of the house?

If the house wall is about 5m wide, sunny and a professional has assessed it, yes. Never the yard's boundary wall.

Can I run it with a battery?

No. Plug-in kits must never be used with a home battery.

Will Electricity North West need to come out?

No visit. You register the kit free at myplugin.solar before first use, and that tells them.
