Unpack it and you'll find
- 2 × 445W TOPCon N-type panels (bifacial, glass-glass)
- 1 × APsystems EZ1-M 800W microinverter
- UK-made ground mounting stand
- 4m AC connection cable and 2m DC extension cables
Ballast isn't included. You'll want blocks, not bricks: see below for how many.
Room for two
Two panels need a clear run of about 3.7m by 1.2m. Edwardian terraces in places like Levenshulme, Chorlton and Heaton Moor often have the longer yards that suit it.
It sits on the flags on its own feet, so nothing's fixed to the house or the yard wall. Keep a clear way to the back gate and the bins.
Ground only. Not for walls, roofs or balconies.
Holding it down when the wind gets up
Ballast isn't in the box. The maker asks for dense blocks of at least 18kg each: 2 for gusts over 40mph, 5 over 60mph and 10 over 80mph. Any builders' merchant sells them.
Tick these off first
Can't tick one? Sort it before you order, or ask us through the contact form.
- A level, sunny run of about 3.7m × 1.2m on the yard floor.
- A weatherproof outdoor socket within reach of the kit's 4m lead. Straight into the wall, no extension leads, reels or adaptors.
- Modern RCD protection in your fuse box. Old fuse box, or not sure? An electrician can check it, or fit the outdoor socket.
- Renting, leasehold or in a managed block? Get written permission from your landlord, freeholder or managing agent before you buy.
- Give your home insurer a quick ring before you set it up.
- Register it free at myplugin.solar before you switch on. That lets Electricity North West, who run the wires round here, know it's there.
- One kit per household, and never wired up with a home battery.

Date to be confirmed
Once the maker confirms a date, the kit goes on pre-order and the dispatch date shows here, in your basket and at checkout.
On a pre-order you pay in full when you order. If we can't dispatch by the long-stop date in your confirmation email, you choose: a full refund or keep waiting. You can cancel for a full refund at any time before dispatch, and for 14 days after delivery.
The box is 1800 × 1180 × 180mm and weighs 74kg. That's a two-person lift, so line up a mate before the van turns up.
Folk often ask
Why 890W of panels if only 800W goes in?
The microinverter caps what goes into your home at 799VA, the plug-in limit. The extra panel power helps it get there on duller days and earlier and later in the day.
Can I split the two panels across the yard?
No. The kit goes up as it comes, both panels on the one stand.
I rent. Can I still have it?
Only with your landlord's written permission first. It's a no-drill kit, but it's still their call.
Will it work through a grey Manchester winter?
It'll make less in winter, like any solar panel, but it still works in daylight. The long summer days do most of the heavy lifting.
