The End-Gable Kit: Big Wall, Bigger Panels

End terraces get one thing nobody else on the row has: a big side wall. Put it to work with one of our three bigger hybrid kits, once a professional has assessed the wall.

Duo, Plus or Max: which suits your gable?

Go by the space you've got. The Duo needs about 3.7m × 1.2m, the Plus about 2.5m × 2.2m (it's taller), and the Max about 5.0m × 1.2m.

Over 960W? Why we suggest a professional check

The Plus has 1030W of panels and the Max 1260W. They still send no more than 799VA into your home, but kits over 960W should have a professional check of the electrics before they're plugged in.

Plenty of Victorian and Edwardian terraces have been rewired more than once over the years. A check puts your mind at rest.

The wall check before anything goes up

The maker requires a professional assessment before any wall, flat-roof or raised install. We don't do assessments or fitting, so you'll book a qualified professional.

Your gable must be a wall of your own house. If it faces the street, check with your council first: kits can't go on a street-facing wall in a conservation area, or on a listed building, in England.

Walls with timber, ACM, MCM or HPL cladding, or having external wall remediation, are ruled out.

Is your gable facing the right way?

South is the sweet spot, and south-east or south-west do nicely too. An east gable gets the morning, a west one the teatime sun, which suits you if you're home in the evenings.

Stand with your back to the gable and open the compass on your phone. Then try the sun checker for a feel of the hours.

Can I put two kits on a big gable?

No. It's one plug-in kit per household. The Max 1260W is the biggest we sell.

Where does the socket go?

Within the kit's 4m lead. A gable often has no outdoor socket, so an electrician may need to fit one, with RCD protection. No extension leads.

My gable is rendered. Is that OK?

Ask the professional doing the assessment. Render isn't ruled out on its own, but cladding of timber, ACM, MCM or HPL is.
