The Back Wall Kit: Duo 890W on Your House Wall

Two 445W panels on a hybrid stand, fixed to the back wall of your own house once a professional has assessed it. Up there, they clear the yard wall's shadow and catch sun the flags never see.

Why the house wall beats the yard floor in most terraces

A terrace yard is a box with a wall round it, usually about head height. When the sun's low, that wall throws a shadow across the flags for a good chunk of the day.

Lift the panels up the house wall and they look straight over it. They're also out of the way of the bins, the bike and next door's football.

The outrigger counts too. Its side wall is a wall of your house, and on a lot of streets it's the sunniest one in the yard.

What's in the Back Wall box

  • 2 × 445W TOPCon N-type panels (bifacial, glass-glass)
  • 1 × APsystems EZ1-M 800W microinverter
  • Hybrid aluminium mounting frame with ballast brackets, for a wall or the ground
  • 4m AC cable and 2m DC extension cable

Ballast isn't included. You'd only need it if you stand the kit on the floor instead.

The professional wall check, and what it looks at

The maker requires a professional assessment before any wall, flat-roof or raised install. We don't do assessments or fitting ourselves, so you'll book a qualified professional, and do it before anything is fixed to the house.

Expect them to look at things like:

  • that it's a wall of your own house, not a boundary or party wall
  • the state of the brick and the mortar, and the right fixings for it
  • how exposed the wall is to the wind, and the height the kit will sit at
  • cladding and render (timber, ACM, MCM or HPL cladding rules a wall out)
  • where the outdoor socket will go, within the kit's 4m lead

In England a kit on a house wall has to stay within set limits, can't go on a street-facing wall in a conservation area, and isn't allowed on a listed building. Check with your council if you're not sure.

Can it go on the wall at the bottom of the yard?

No. That wall is almost always the boundary with the entry or next door. House walls only.

My back wall's narrower than 3.7m. Now what?

The Compact 515W hybrid kit needs about 2.0m. Or try the outrigger's side wall.

Will the neighbours think I've lost the plot?

They'll more likely ask where you got it. It's two tidy black panels on the back of the house, facing the yard.
